Sporting most of the excellence of its gas-powered sibling, the Volkswagen e-Golf zaps its way through a growing field of affordable EVs. The 2016 e-Golf we tested had an EPA estimate of 116 MPGe combined, but managed just 94 MPGe and 52 miles of EV-only range versus its estimated 83 miles. Novel packaging of the battery components avoids reducing passenger space; options include automated emergency braking and parking assist. The 2017 e-Golf promises 124 miles of range and goes on sale early next year.
